Why does an oval cut showcase garnet's color particularly well? The oval's elongated brilliant faceting creates a large face-up table that allows the garnet's deep red color to be viewed across a greater surface area than round stones of equivalent carat weight - the color appears richer and more saturated because more of the stone's color depth is visible simultaneously. The oval also appears larger face-up than a round of the same carat weight.
